My portraits are all environmental. I try to capture a mode, or attitude from my subjects. As a child I would occasionally accompany my dad when he photographed professors from the Union Teleological Seminary, or dignitaries from the Austrian Institute. I saw how he engaged his subjects, and was able to take wonderful photographs of them. He did the portrait of Norman Mailer for the book jacket of “The Naked And The Dead’. He taught me to shoot up close and personal, and that’s what I try to do.
